Hi, I'm Abby!  I'm a sweet, easy-going two-and-a-half-year-old coonhound mix in need of a new home.  My current mom and dad say I'm very nearly a perfect dog, but I can't seem to get along with Chloe, the other dog in the home.  We're best friends about 99.9% of the time--but when she and I don't agree, we don't handle it very well. I've had fun with lots of dogs of both genders at doggie daycare and at the dog park, so it's not that I don't like other dogs in general.  Actually, I love to play!  I just shouldn’t share my home with another female dog. Having a male dog friend or being the sole recipient of your love would great, though, either way!  Mom and Dad are devastated to say goodbye to me, but they think I'm far more adoptable than the other dog and will adapt to new people much better.

On the topic of people, I absolutely love them.  If you have lots of guests, that won't phase me at all.  If you want a guard dog, you're looking at the wrong girl.  I have never met a person I didn't love right off the bat!  I'm also good with kids.  I currently live with a 5-month-old.  I've had good experiences with older kids, including toddlers, as well.  The biggest threat I pose to them is whacking them with my tail or maybe an errant paw when I roll over to beg for a belly rub.  I also like to eat pacifiers, which apparently isn't ideal when there's a crying baby in the house.

I'm a perfect balance between lazy and high energy, adapting my energy level to what you're doing.  If you're relaxing in the recliner, I want nothing more than to lie at your feet (or even better, on a couch nearby).  If the kids are playing in their room, I'll plop down and watch.  If it's outside time, though, I'm always up for a walk or run (I’m an athletic 55 lbs, so I can keep up!); and there's nothing better than putting my coonhound nose to work exploring!  I love playing with my toys, too.  I toss them in the air, run circles around them, and even nudge them down the stairs so I can play fetch with myself.

I am oh-so-eager to please.  Your praise means a lot to me, and I can't stand for you to be disappointed.  My body language shows how sad I am, even if you are very gentle with your voice when you correct me.  I’m sensitive that way!  Food's my biggest motivator, though.  My owners weren't much into training, but they think these qualities would make me a really stellar student if someone tried to teach me lots of skills.  As it is, I'm housebroken and know sit, down, and shake.  I am content in my crate at night, and I even ride happily in my crate in the back of a pickup (oh, the smells!).  I also do well inside a vehicle, if you'll let me join you inside.  I am superb at "wait," even when there's a treat right in front of me.

I mentioned food a minute ago.  I love, love, love food.  You'll have to help me not overeat because--well, let's just say I love food so much I've even been caught licking the dirty dishes in the dishwasher.  Another big thing for me is belly rubs.  That's heaven.  Walks might take the cake, though.  I will very quickly learn which shoe styles might possibly mean a walk, and you'll have a dancing, super excited dog on your hands every time you wear them!

I do have a decent prey drive, so a home with chickens, rabbits, etc. wouldn't be a good idea.  I don’t mind cattle, though.  Cats are an unknown.

I'm quite a looker.  I can be very regal at times, and I have a great smile.  Other times, though, my big coonhound lip will get stuck on my teeth, making me look like a big goofball!  The ears can have a mind of their own sometimes, too.

I hope you can see from this little note that I'm quite a steal.  Will you be the one to take me home?

Love,

Abby
